Corns on the feet are a common problem for many people across the globe

The thick layers of skin that builds up on a person’s foot and forms into an abrasion on a person’s toe. This formation can resemble that of a kernel of corn.

Corns will form on a person’s foot if there is repeated pressure in that one spot on the toe. For instance, if there is a certain part of the shoe that is consistently rubbing that area of your toe, over time this will result in the person developing a corn on their foot.

There are doctors all across the country that will treat this type of condition. If you live in Texas and suffer from this type of problem, you will have no difficulty getting corn treatment in Houston. There are also some people that will develop this type of lesion on their foot because they have some type of deformity. For example, some people have what is called a hammertoe.

When a person suffers from this condition the top part of their toe that is bent upwards rubs against the tops of their shoe. Some corns are painful and others don’t seem to bother a patient. However, when the corns become hard enough to cause pain a foot and ankle surgeon will give the patient a recommended treatment option that is appropriate for them. This treatment is crucial because if the underlying method is not treated the problem will be ongoing.

It is not recommended for the patient to attempt to remove the corn at home because of the danger of it becoming infected and turning into a more serious problem. There are soft corns and there are hard corns that form on people’s feet. Hard corns are more common. These formations typically appear on the smaller toes or on the outer side of the little toe. This may be because of poor-fitting shoes, which tend to irritate the foot, the most.

Soft corns will sometimes form between the toes. When surgeons examine their patient’s feet for this type of problem, they find this type of lesion most commonly located between the forth and the fifth digit on the foot. This formation tends to be soft because of perspiration between the toes that keep the skin moistened. With this said, there is a higher chance of this type of corn becoming infected on its own.

The majority of patients that suffer from corns on their feet typically will either have very prominent bony toes, thin skin, or as stated before, a deformity of their toes or feet which will cause the skin to rub more easily on the inside of their shoes.

Many people that suffer from this problem will use over-the-counter remedies to try and cause the problem to dissipate. They will purchase items such as corn plaster which only “Band-Aids” the problem but does not actually treat the corn. Folks with diabetes or who are elderly should never make an attempt to cut the corn because the elderly may really suffer from thin skin and the diabetic is very susceptible to serious infection in the feet. There are a great number of diabetics that are already at high risk of losing a toes, or worse yet the foot.

A podiatrist has the skill to effectively trim or pair down the thickened skin with the use of a scalpel blade. This will reduce the pain the patient experiences. Sometimes this action has to be repeated or it may not return if the patient begins to buy better quality footwear.

So, if you are in pain from corns that have formed on your toes, now is the time for you to research a good podiatrist in your local area so that you can obtain relief from this agitation.
