Reconstructive surgery of the foot
and ankle consists of complex surgical repairs that may be necessary
to regain function or stability, reduce pain, and prevent further
deformity or disease.
In many cases, reconstructive
foot surgery may require tendon repair or transfer, fusion of
bones, joint replacement, bone or skin grafting, and precise osteotomies
in order to repair or correct congenital or acquired deformities.
Bone screws, pins, wires, staples, and other fixation devices
and casts may be utilized to stabilize and repair bone in reconstructive
procedures.
